East Middle School seventh-grader Varisha Imran recently won the Meijer Great Choices K-8 Film Festival. Iman produced a Public Service Announcement on diversity called "A Diverse World Is A Better World.” The video earned a $500 classroom grant which will be used for technology in the Media Center at East. Iman's video received more than 425 online votes. She will travel to Grand Rapids in June to receive her award.
Moleca Ghannam, an exceptional senior at Canton High School, has been recognized as one of the nation’s most outstanding high school seniors by Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and has been awarded $10,000 for college. Ghannam has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and civic engagement in school and the community. She was one of 200 students from a pool of 84,000 who competed for the scholarship.

In an exciting awards finale, which represented groups from four states, the eighth grade band won 3rd place standing in the Concert Band I class (the highest division), and the seventh grade band won 1st place in the Concert Band II class.
The Extended Day Program will be holding a lottery for the Kids’ Time and Club Connection programs for the 2012-2013 school year. In the past, available spots were filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Child Care Program Request forms will be accepted until June 1, 2012. Placement will not be on a first come, first serve basis as in the past; a random process will be utilized on June 4. There is no advantage to submitting the form on May 14.
Did you know that Plymouth-Canton Community Schools has the highest MEAP math scores in grades 5, 6, and 8 in all of Wayne County? The District ranks first out of 34 districts based on 2011 exam results. Strong math scores have been common for P-CCS students over the years, but this is the first time the District has been tops at these three grade levels at one time. P-CCS elementary and middle school teachers use the Everyday Math and Connected Math curriculum.

The District offers a summer camp program for students in grades kindergarten through grade eight. Camp starts on Wed., June 20 and runs through Wed., Aug. 22, 2012. For complete details and registration information, please see the Extended Day webpage.
